David P. Ackerman
David Ackerman concentrates his practice in the areas of complex Business Litigation, Legal Ethics (including Florida Bar matters), and Professional Malpractice. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, where he is a member of the National Moot Court Committee. He formerly served on the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure Committee and is past chair of the Florida State Committee.
David is a member and past-president of the Federal Bar Association, Palm Beach Chapter and was appointed by the Chief Judge to the Ad Hoc Advisory Committee on Mediation for the U.S. District of Court for the Southern District of Florida.
He also served as chair of the Judicial Nominating Commission for the 15th Judicial Circuit in and for Palm Beach County, Florida and is a past member of the Judicial Nominating Commission, Florida Fourth District Court of Appeal.
David is Board certified in Business Litigation and has an ‘AV’ Preeminent rating from the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. He is ranked in the Florida edition of Chambers and Partners USA: A Guide to America’s Leading Business Lawyers in 2017 and has been recognized by Best Lawyers of America since 2003 for Bet-the-Company Litigation, Commercial Litigation and Securities Litigation. David has also been named Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers of America in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2018. David is ranked among the “Florida Legal Elite” by Florida Trend magazine and has been selected to Florida Super Lawyers from 2006-2017. David is listed in the Super Lawyers, Corporate Counsel Edition and has also been selected as a Top Lawyer by South Florida Legal Guide each year since 2002.
In addition to his active law practice, David has been a leader within the legal organization and in giving back to the community. He is a past member of the Executive Council of the Business Law Section of The Florida Bar, past chair of the State/Federal Judicial Liaison, Business Litigation and Law School Liaison Committees. He serves on the Steering Committee of Business Litigation in Florida (Fla. CLE 9th Ed. 2017) and is current author of “Recovery of Attorneys’ Fees”.
He is a member of the Palm Beach County Bar Association, where he serves on the Professionalism Committee and is past chair of the Professionalism and Commercial Litigation Committees. He received the Professionalism Award given by the Palm Beach County Bar Association to an individual who exemplifies the highest ideals of ethics within the legal system. He is also an emeritus member of the American Inns of Court, Palm Beach Chapter. In 2017, David was named the recipient of the Shepard P. Lesser Professionalism Award, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the legal profession in our community.
David is very active with The Salvation Army where he currently serves on its Advisory Board and is chair of both the Long Range & Strategic Planning and Northwest Community Center Event Committees. He was their Hearts of Gold honoree in 2010 and the firm received the 2015 Shining Star Award in recognition of its outstanding service and dedication in Palm Beach County.
David is also a member of The Legal Aid Society of Florida, Board of Trustees, is past chair of the Board of Directors and is a past recipient of their Pro Bono Service award.
